How to Read a BIS Hallmark: Your 30-Second Purity Check
Every piece of gold jewellery sold in India must carry a BIS Hallmark — the government's guarantee of purity. Before you buy (from us or anyone else), flip the piece over and look for three marks.
1. The BIS logo
A small triangle inside a dot. This confirms the piece was tested at a BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centre.
2. The purity mark
A number like 916 (22K — 91.6% pure), 750 (18K — 75%) or 585 (14K — 58.5%). This is the purity you are paying for, stamped into the metal itself.
3. The HUID
A six-character alphanumeric code unique to your piece. Enter it in the BIS Care app to see exactly where and when it was hallmarked — your jewellery's digital birth certificate.
Why it matters for the price
Gold is priced by weight × purity × the day's rate. At Kalash, every product page shows this exact breakup — gold value, making charges and GST — so the hallmark on the metal always matches the maths on the invoice.
